The view as I approached Big Wet Meadow was awesome. Towering granite on both sides with a forested valley between them. It was early morning so the light didn't do my photos justice.
Colby Lake was nice. I took an hour break at the lake. Then continued the climb up Colby.
I was taking baby steps and resting every 10 feet. Did I not train hard enough for this???
The hike up to Colby Pass was the hardest pass I have ever done. Steep!!!
To reward me for the killer climb, the top of Colby Pass was awesome. Unlike Avalanche Pass, this is why I love to hike over Sierra mountain passes. Takes my breath away.
Headed down the other side of Colby Pass, and it follows a canyon that narrows as you hike along. Galats was a swamp, not a lake. Not a place I wanted to stay so I kept hiking.
I started thinking about how I could cut a day out of the trip. Not too sure why...
I hiked to about a mile past Galats Lake and made camp. I decided that I would hike more miles the next couple of days to cut a day out of the trip. At dusk, a pack of coyotes was around me in the narrow canyon. I'm no stranger to coyotes, I've lived around them most of my life. This however, was a bit unnerving.. They were moving in circles around me and yipping and barking.
I never saw them but it was uncomfortable... they were so close.
