Last day...
It's a long hike from Vidette back to Roads End and not the most inspiring, however the hot shower and cheeseburger waiting at Cedar Grove gave me motivation!
Another early start today, the temps will go back up as I descend back down to 5,000 feet.
I passed many hikers over the last 2 days. Since most were doing the High Sierra Trail or John Muir Trail, and I have done both, it was fun chatting with them and sharing trail knowledge.
As expected, I made good time and arrived at Roads End by 12pm.
Post trip thoughts.
The first half of this trail is aptly named. With the exception of the large group on day 1, I only met 3 other people over the first 3.5 days.
If you are seeking a less populated trail with awesome views, lakes, streams and mountain passes that rival anything else in the Sierra, this is a good choice.
It is NOT an easy trail however. Yes, it is well maintained, but the elevation gain/loss is much more pronounced that anything along the JMT or HST.
Since it is little more remote and more physically difficult, be prepared physically and mentally for the experience. If you haven't spent time solo in the backcountry, I'd do a more populated trail solo first, or hike this trail with a partner.
I have done dozens of solo trips and appreciate time alone in the mountains, but can cerainly see how a trip like this could play on your mind. The one night I was sharing my camp with the coyotes was intense and made me aware of just how alone I truly was. It might be really unsettling being this 'alone' for your first solo trip!
