Got an early start today.
I know Forester Pass is one of the highest passes in the Sierra, and second only to Whitney along the John Muir trail, however I find it to be a relatively easy pass compared to it's neighbor Glen Pass. I have hiked Forester both Northbound and Southbound and just find it a friendly pass to traverse, with outstanding views at the top as your reward.
My destination for the night was Vidette Meadow. Vidette can be VICIOUS with mosquitoes early in the season, but by late August it was a great place to camp.
Mixed feelings as I write this journal this evening. Tomorrow will be my last day on the trail. A long day but all downhill so it won't be crushing. I am starting to believe that doing 12-14 mile days is just not working for me. I knew this trip was going to be physically hard, and it was, so I really hit the training hard to prepare. However, I am not enjoying it as much as I expected. I think doing so many miles per day I am getting too exhausted each day to really enjoy the journey.
I'll have to rethink my hiking strategy...
